Building Your Brand & Community
It takes courage (and planning!) to walk away from a 6-figure career and go after that flexibility you desire. Lindsay Pinchuk, pregnant with her first child, did just that - and used her skills and connections to start and grow Bump Club into a 7-figure business with a thriving community of more than 3 million families.
In this episode I sit down with Lindsay and chat about how she built her 7-figure business from the ground up, sold it and then transitioned into her current marketing & consulting business. We get into the details about how she grew such a massive audience and what life was looking like during those times of transition.
Key moments in the conversation include:
Ask yourself what's the worst that could happen? - Do a gut check and ask yourself - if the worst happens, can I live with that? If the answer is yes, then use that information as your guide.
There's more than just the business - When you start something new, your surroundings and personal life are just as important to the success of your business. Loop in your partner, set realistic goals and line up the proper support to allow you to work in your business.
Be disciplined with your time - one of the reasons people start a new business is for the flexibility. But be careful you're not filling your time with lunch dates and errands when you've carved out time to work. In order to grow you need to stay focused during the time you're dedicating to work and get as much done as possible. Work smarter, not harder.
Use what you've got - whether it's your corporate contacts, your natural gifts & abilities, your formal education or experience from corporate lean on those skillsets and then surround yourself with people who know what they're doing and are willing to learn.
Meet people where they are - As your business grows and you're in touch with your customer base you'll see opportunities to expand your market. Be open to those moments and run with them to fill your customer's needs.
Know how to pivot - Life may hand you lemons or... a global pandemic! It's important to be able to pivot, reinvent and to keep moving forward.
Prove your concept - People do it both ways but if you have the bandwidth to do something as a side hustle and prove the concept then you'll have an easier time transitioning out of corporate.
Get creative - When you're planning your transition it's not just top line income that counts. Take a look at how what you're doing can impact your family's bottom line and get creative to make it work. What can you write off? What other areas are you saving in? Where else are your benefitting?
