Leverage Your Skills & Stop Waiting for Permission
In this episode of Breaking Up with Corporate, my guest is travel agency owner - Angela Mascuilli. After having to move around every couple of years with her husband's military career, Angela found herself unfulfilled with her corporate legal career. She was constantly waiting for someone else to give her an opportunity or respect or validation - prior to realizing she had all of those things within herself.
We'll hear about how Angela has put her passion for research and her loads of personal experience with travel together and is now in the business of doing something she loves.
Some of the key takeaways from this episode are -
1. Stop waiting for permission, opportunity and your sense of worth to come from someone else. Remember that you have all of those things within yourself.
2. When there's a tapping or a calling to do more - when you KNOW that you have more to offer - trust yourself.
3. If you see someone doing something that lights you up - do some research! Find out how they're getting paid - learn about it - ask the questions.
4. Are there parts of your corporate job that you're both really good at and that you enjoy? Leverage those skills for yourself. Research, client building, technology - all of those are transferrable.
5. Get a sense of how much you can help people. Provide your services to people beyond friends and family to gain your confidence.
6. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to a lot of circumstances but especially for travel right now. Not only do you a person to speak to if something should go wrong, you have a fiduciary advocate on your side as well as someone who is excited to curate the best experience for you.
7. You don't remember how much you spend as much as you remember the experience. Don't take a once in a lifetime trip and come home with regrets.
